Excel Container

Sandbox container data for Microsoft Excel on macOS, used to store app-specific files, settings, and some local working data.

What is Excel Container?

This folder is the macOS app container for Microsoft Excel. Sandboxed apps use container folders to keep their own settings, temporary working files, and other app-specific data separated from the rest of your Library folder. People commonly encounter it when checking storage use, troubleshooting Excel behavior, or reviewing leftover files after removing Microsoft Office.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

This folder is usually legitimate and associated with Microsoft Excel. Removing it can reset parts of Excel's local app data and may delete unsaved or locally stored container contents, so there is some data-loss risk if Excel is still installed or actively used.

Recommendation: Keep this folder if you use Microsoft Excel or may need its local settings and working data. If Excel has been uninstalled and you no longer need its local container data, this folder is often removable after confirming no important documents or recovery data remain inside.
