Microsoft Excel is a standard Microsoft productivity application, and its normal files and background behavior are consistent with spreadsheet work. The main practical risk comes from workbook content rather than the app itself: spreadsheets can contain macros, external data connections, and embedded content that may run code or pull in data when opened. Be cautious with files received by email or download, especially if a workbook asks you to enable macros or trust external sources.
Recommendation: Keep Microsoft Excel if you use spreadsheets for work, school, budgeting, reporting, or data analysis. If you no longer use it, you can remove the app to free storage, but Excel workbooks may then open in another spreadsheet program with some formatting or macro features behaving differently.
