Containers
This folder stores sandboxed app data for many Mac apps, separating each app’s files, settings, and internal working data.
What is Containers?
~/Library/Containers is a standard macOS folder used mainly by sandboxed apps from the App Store and some other apps that adopt Apple’s sandboxing model. Each app usually gets its own subfolder, often named with a bundle identifier, where it keeps documents, settings, caches, and other app-specific data isolated from other apps. People commonly encounter this folder when checking storage use, troubleshooting app behavior, or trying to understand what app data remains after uninstalling software.

The folder itself is normal and important for apps that use macOS sandboxing. Deleting container contents can remove app data, sign-in state, saved settings, downloads, drafts, or local copies of documents. Some subfolders may belong to apps you still use, while others may be leftovers from apps you already removed.
Recommendation: Keep ~/Library/Containers as a system-managed folder. Review individual app subfolders instead of deleting the whole folder. If a subfolder clearly belongs to an app you no longer use, removal may be reasonable, but check first for documents or data you may want to keep.
