Users
The /Users folder is the top-level location that stores user home folders and personal data for accounts on a Mac.
What is Users?
On macOS, /Users is a standard top-level system folder that contains home folders for local user accounts, such as documents, downloads, desktop files, music, pictures, and each account's Library data. Most people encounter it when browsing startup disks, managing accounts, migrating data, or checking where user-specific files are stored.

Safety overview
Status: Use with caution
This is a core macOS directory. Deleting or altering items here can remove personal files, application data, account settings, or shared resources. Some contents may belong to active user accounts, while others may be old accounts or shared data, so data-loss risk is high without careful review.
Recommendation: Keep the /Users folder itself. If you are trying to free space, review individual user home folders, old deleted-account remnants, or the Shared folder carefully rather than removing this top-level directory. Confirm whether a folder belongs to an active account before changing or deleting anything.
