Opt
/opt is a standard Unix-style folder used by optional third-party tools, package managers, and developer software on some Macs.
What is Opt?
/opt is a top-level directory traditionally used for optional add-on software outside the main system and Applications folders. On macOS, it is commonly encountered when developer tools, package managers, command-line utilities, VPN software, or enterprise software install files in a Unix-style layout. Some Macs may not use it at all, while others may have important third-party components stored there.

/opt is not usually a core macOS user-data folder, but software installed there may be required by developer tools, command-line environments, background services, or business software. Removing it or its contents can break installed tools and scripts, and some items may not be obvious from the Finder alone.
Recommendation: Review the contents of /opt before making changes. If you actively use package managers, developer tools, security tools, VPN clients, or enterprise software, keep it. If it contains leftovers from software you fully uninstalled, removal may be possible, but only after identifying which app or tool created each subfolder.
