What is Microsoft Excel?

Microsoft Excel is the macOS version of Microsoft's spreadsheet application, typically installed as part of Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office. People use it for worksheets, formulas, charts, tables, budgeting, data analysis, reporting, and opening .xlsx and related spreadsheet files.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

This is a legitimate user-installed application, not a system component. Removing it generally does not harm macOS, but it can prevent you from opening or editing Excel documents with Excel and may leave related support files or saved data elsewhere in your Library folders.

Recommendation: Keep it if you use Excel, need Microsoft 365 apps, or regularly open Excel spreadsheets. Remove it if you no longer use it, but review related Microsoft support files and any documents you still need before uninstalling.
