What is Caches?
This folder is part of OneDrive's sandboxed container on macOS and holds cached data used by the app during normal operation. Users may encounter it when reviewing storage usage or troubleshooting OneDrive behavior. Cached files here can include temporary app data and locally stored information that helps OneDrive performance and sync-related tasks.

Safety overview
Status: Mostly safe
This is generally cache data rather than core documents, so removing it is usually low risk compared with deleting synced files. However, OneDrive may need to rebuild the cache afterward, which can temporarily slow the app, trigger re-downloading, or require re-syncing some data.
Recommendation: Keep it if OneDrive is in active use. Consider removing it only when troubleshooting app issues or reclaiming space, and preferably after quitting OneDrive first. Expect the folder to be recreated automatically when the app runs again.
