What is Mysterium?

~/.mysterium is a hidden folder in your home directory used by Mysterium software for local working data. Mysterium provides VPN apps and network node software, and this folder is where that software stores information it needs to run on your Mac. Depending on how you use Mysterium, the folder can contain configuration files, local state, keys, and other app data tied to your account, connection history, or node identity. Users usually encounter it while cleaning hidden folders or removing old VPN or network tools. It is not a standard macOS system folder, and deleting it can reset Mysterium-related settings or remove locally stored identity data that the software expects to find.

This folder is ordinarily created by legitimate Mysterium software, but it may store account-related settings, local identity files, and other data needed for VPN or node operation. Removing it is generally safe only if you no longer use Mysterium on this Mac. If the software is still installed, deleting the folder can sign you out, reset configuration, or break existing Mysterium connectivity until it is set up again.

Recommendation: Keep ~/.mysterium if you actively use Mysterium VPN or a Mysterium node. If you have already removed Mysterium and do not need its saved settings or local identity data, you can delete this folder. If you are unsure, make a backup copy first so you can restore it if the app later needs the data.
