Moneydance

~/.moneydance is the home data folder used by Moneydance to store a user's personal finance files, settings, and related local data.

What is Moneydance?

Moneydance is a personal finance application for Mac, Windows, and Linux developed by The Infinite Kind. It helps people track bank accounts, credit cards, budgets, investments, scheduled transactions, and reports in a desktop-based workflow. The folder at ~/.moneydance is part of that local setup and is commonly used to store Moneydance data and settings in the user's home directory. People usually encounter this folder while cleaning up old app data, migrating to a new Mac, or troubleshooting account and sync behavior. Because it is tied to financial records and app configuration, removing it can affect access to existing Moneydance data or reset parts of the app's local setup.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

This folder is generally safe as part of normal Moneydance use, but it may contain personal financial records, account data, sync information, and app settings. Deleting it will not improve macOS itself, and it can remove local Moneydance data or force the app to be set up again. If you still use Moneydance or may need old records later, make a backup before changing or removing this folder.

Recommendation: Keep ~/.moneydance if you still use Moneydance, want to preserve your financial history, or may return to the app later. Remove it only if you have stopped using Moneydance and have already backed up any records or settings you want to keep. If storage is your only concern, review the contents first rather than deleting the folder outright.
