What is Caches?
~/Library/Caches is the per-user cache folder on macOS. Apps and some Apple components use it to store temporary files such as downloaded assets, thumbnails, browser data, previews, and other reusable data that can improve performance and reduce repeated work. People often encounter this folder when reviewing disk usage or troubleshooting app behavior.

Safety overview
Status: Mostly safe
Cache contents are generally temporary and are often recreated automatically, but deleting them can sign you out of some apps, remove offline temporary data, or cause apps to rebuild data slowly the next time they open. It is safer to remove only app-specific cache folders you recognize rather than clearing everything at once while apps are running.
Recommendation: Keep this folder for normal use. If you need to free space or troubleshoot an app, review its subfolders and remove only cache data for apps you know and are not currently using. Avoid deleting unrelated library folders or active app data, and expect some apps to recreate caches after restart.
