What is Application Support?

Application Support is a standard macOS Library folder used by many apps to store support data outside the app itself. You will often find app-specific subfolders here containing downloaded resources, databases, account data, templates, plug-ins, offline files, and other content needed for normal operation. This folder helps apps keep larger or more complex working data separate from preferences and caches. Users commonly encounter it when reviewing storage use, troubleshooting an app, or removing leftover data after uninstalling software. The folder is not a single app and does not belong to one publisher; it is a shared location used across many Mac applications.

This is a normal macOS data location, and deleting the entire ~/Library/Application Support folder can break apps, remove offline content, reset local databases, or cause data loss in programs that store important working files there. Some subfolders are safe to remove only when you know which app created them and you no longer use that app. Before deleting anything, inspect the specific app-named subfolder and make sure it does not contain data you still need, such as mail stores, note databases, media libraries, or sync data.

Recommendation: Keep the main Application Support folder. If you need to free space or clean up leftovers, review individual subfolders instead of removing the whole location. Delete only app-specific data you recognize and no longer need, and expect the related app to lose local data or recreate support files the next time it runs.
