iOS Device Backup 00008101
iOS Device Backup 00008101 is a MobileSync backup folder that stores a local backup of an iPhone or iPad on your Mac.
What is iOS Device Backup 00008101?
iOS Device Backup 00008101 is a local device-backup folder created by Apple's MobileSync system on macOS. It holds backup data for an iPhone or iPad so the device can be restored later or migrated to a replacement device. Users commonly encounter this folder when managing storage, cleaning up old backups, or troubleshooting sync and restore issues. The long folder name identifies one specific device backup set inside the broader MobileSync backup location. Deleting it removes that local backup from the Mac, which means you can no longer use this copy to restore the device or recover data from it unless another backup exists elsewhere, such as iCloud or a newer local backup.

Safety overview
Status: Mostly safe
This folder is not harmful by itself; it stores backup data for an iPhone or iPad. The main concern is data loss: if you delete it, you remove one restore point and may lose access to older device data that is not saved anywhere else. Backup folders can also contain sensitive personal information from the device backup. Keep it if you may need to restore that device, recover messages or app data, or maintain an offline backup history.
Recommendation: Keep this folder if it is the only local backup for the device or if you want a restore option on your Mac. Remove it only when you are sure the backup is outdated, duplicated, or no longer needed, and only after confirming you have another current backup you can rely on.
