~/.colima stores Colima’s local virtual machine, configuration, and runtime data used to run containers on macOS.
What is Colima?
~/.colima is the main data folder for Colima, a developer tool that runs container environments on macOS using lightweight virtual machines. It commonly holds Colima profiles, configuration files, VM disk data, logs, and other runtime state needed for Docker, containerd, Kubernetes, or related container workflows. Developers often encounter this folder when cleaning up disk space after testing containers, local clusters, or command-line development environments. Removing it deletes Colima’s local environment and usually resets its machine state, images, and profile-specific settings. This folder is not required by macOS itself, but it is important if you actively use Colima for local development or container-based tooling.

This folder is generally safe to remove if you no longer use Colima, but deleting it can erase local container environments, VM data, configuration, and related development state stored by Colima. That may break current container workflows until Colima is set up again. If you still use local Docker-compatible or Kubernetes development on your Mac, keep it.
Recommendation: Keep ~/.colima if you use Colima for local containers or development environments. If you stopped using Colima or want a clean reset, you can remove this folder, understanding that Colima will lose its existing local machine data and may need to recreate everything the next time you start it.
