Vellum
Vellum is a desktop AI assistant for macOS that lets you chat, use voice, and automate tasks across your Mac, web, and connected services.
What is Vellum?
Vellum is a personal AI assistant app for Mac that helps you manage tasks, conversations, and computer-based workflows from one place. It gives you a chat interface, voice input, and a menu bar presence so you can interact with your assistant throughout the day without keeping a full window open. The Mac app can connect to a cloud-hosted assistant or run with a local assistant setup, and it is designed to keep the same conversations, memories, and workspace available across Mac, web, and mobile. Common uses include catching up on email and Slack, remembering follow-ups, searching notes and files, planning work and personal tasks, and controlling parts of your Mac when you ask it to. Vellum is published by Vocify Inc. and is aimed at users who want an AI workspace that can combine chat, memory, voice, and computer-use features in one desktop app.

Safety overview
Status: Mostly safe
Vellum is legitimate assistant software, but some of its most useful features rely on access that deserves normal privacy review. On Mac, it may request permissions such as Microphone, Screen Recording, Accessibility, Speech Recognition, and notifications so it can hear you, see on-screen content, and interact with apps when asked. Those requests are consistent with its assistant and computer-control features. If you use it, grant only the permissions you want it to have and review connected accounts and stored conversations in the app's settings.
Recommendation: Keep Vellum if you actively use it for AI chat, voice input, or Mac task automation. If you no longer use the assistant, you can remove it like a normal app; doing so may also remove access to local conversations, settings, logs, and any local assistant setup tied to this installation.
