What is Discord?

Discord is a communication app that helps people talk over text, voice, and video in organized spaces for friends, clubs, study groups, gaming communities, and work-related teams. On Mac, the desktop app gives you a dedicated place to join servers, message people directly, manage channels, and stay connected without keeping everything inside a browser tab. Common uses include group chat, live voice calls, video calls, screen sharing, community moderation, and coordinating multiplayer games or events. Discord also supports file sharing, notifications, status presence, and app integrations that can extend how a server works. Many people use it as a social hub, while others use it for hobby groups, classrooms, or collaborative communities. The macOS app is part of Discord’s cross-platform service, which is also available on web, mobile, Windows, and Linux.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

Discord is a mainstream communication app, and requests such as microphone, camera, screen recording, notifications, and accessibility-related permissions can be consistent with voice chat, video calls, and screen sharing features. Review these permissions carefully and grant only what you plan to use. Because Discord includes direct messaging, public communities, and user-generated content, privacy and safety depend partly on your server choices, account settings, and who can contact you. This bundle ID is commonly associated with Discord builds, but if your installed app behaves unusually, confirm it was downloaded from Discord and not a modified copy.

Recommendation: Keep Discord if you use it for chat, communities, calls, or game coordination. If you no longer use the service, you can remove it to free space and reduce notifications, but doing so will stop desktop messaging, voice chat, and screen sharing until you reinstall it.
