Visual-effect controls change supported macOS interface behavior. They can alter perceived responsiveness but do not increase hardware performance.
Before changing settings
Record the current values and close important full-screen or presentation work. Review macOS Accessibility settings if your goal is reduced motion or increased contrast.
Change one option
- Open the visual settings area in Optimize.
- Read the effect described.
- Change one setting.
- Test Finder, windows, Mission Control, and your normal workflow.
- Keep or restore the value before testing another.
Some changes can require restarting Finder, signing out, or reopening applications.
Restore defaults
Use the provided default control when available. If an interface behaves unexpectedly, restore the prior value and restart the affected process or Mac.
Managed Macs
An organization profile can enforce visual or accessibility settings. Contact the administrator rather than repeatedly overriding a managed value.
