Startup Management helps identify supported items that open or run when you sign in. Reducing unnecessary startup activity can simplify login, but disabling an item can also remove synchronization, update, device, or security functionality.
Review startup items
- Open Optimize.
- Choose Startup Management.
- Wait for the supported locations to be scanned.
- Review the item name, developer, path, and type.
- Use Online Information & Comments only when you want optional context about an unfamiliar item.
- Change only items whose purpose you understand.
Decide whether to keep an item
Keep an item when it provides a background function you rely on, including cloud sync, input devices, backups, communication, licensing, updates, or security.
Consider disabling an item when it belongs to an app you still want installed but do not need at every login. Disabling is generally a better first test than uninstalling the whole app.
Before changing it, verify its owner, purpose, management status, and whether the action is reversible. Plan how you will test the affected app after restarting.
Apply a change
Close the owning application when practical. Select the intended item, read the confirmation, and approve macOS authorization only if the action matches your choice.
Some modern background items are managed by macOS or their owning application. Use System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions or the application’s own preference when diCleaner directs you there.
Test the result
Sign out or restart the Mac when necessary, then verify that:
- The unwanted process no longer starts.
- Required sync and device features still work.
- The application can still open manually.
Re-enable the item if functionality is lost.
Remove an orphaned item
An entry can remain after an app is removed. Confirm that the application is truly gone and that no related app still uses the service before removing the orphaned startup file.
Managing a startup item does not uninstall its application or cancel its services.
