Similar Photos Finder groups images that appear visually related. It can help review bursts and repeated compositions, but each image may still contain a meaningful difference.
Prepare the scan
- Back up irreplaceable photos.
- Download any cloud-only images you want compared.
- Open Files → Similar Photos Finder.
- Select an accessible image folder.
- Start the scan.
Use the Photos app for assets managed inside a Photos library rather than modifying its package structure directly.
Compare a group
View images at a useful size and compare:
- Focus and motion blur.
- Facial expressions and closed eyes.
- Exposure and white balance.
- Crop and composition.
- Resolution and format.
- Edits, annotations, and metadata.
- Whether one is an original and another an export.
Choose what to keep
Preserve the best original and intentional variants. A lower-resolution image may still be the edited or shared version you need.
Remove cautiously
Delete a small group, verify the remaining files, and confirm that albums or projects still reference valid copies.
Similarity is not a cryptographic content match. Use Duplicate Files Finder when you specifically want identical-content comparison.
