iOS DeviceSupport

Xcode’s iOS DeviceSupport folder stores device support files used when connecting iPhones or iPads for development and debugging.

iOS Device Support

What is iOS DeviceSupport?

iOS DeviceSupport is a folder created by Xcode under your user Library. It contains platform support files for specific iOS versions so Xcode can prepare symbols, communicate with connected devices, and support tasks like debugging, device logs, and development testing. People usually encounter it when installing Xcode, connecting iPhones or iPads to a Mac for development, or noticing that Xcode-related storage has grown over time.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

This is a legitimate Apple/Xcode support folder, not typically a security concern. Removing contents may force Xcode to recreate them later and can temporarily affect debugging or device support for certain iOS versions until needed files are downloaded or regenerated.

Recommendation: Keep it if you use Xcode, connect iOS devices to this Mac, or may need older iOS version support. If you no longer do iOS development or device debugging, it is generally optional and can be reviewed for removal, with the expectation that Xcode may recreate needed files later.
