What is Parall?

Parall is a native macOS productivity app for creating separate launchers for supported Mac apps, web apps, files, folders, and command-line tools. It is built for people who need more than one independent instance of the same app at the same time, such as separate work and personal sessions, different browser profiles, or isolated test environments. Instead of duplicating the original app, Parall creates lightweight shortcut apps that can have their own Dock icon, name, launch settings, and, where supported, separate data storage. It can also turn a website into its own Mac-style app shortcut using the system web engine. This makes it useful for multi-account workflows, development and testing setups, and keeping app sessions clearly separated on one Mac. Parall is published by Ihor July and distributed for Mac through the Mac App Store and the publisher website.

Key features

  • Launch multiple supported app instances side by side
  • Create separate shortcuts with their own names and Dock icons
  • Use distinct data locations and profiles for supported apps
  • Turn websites into standalone Mac-style web app shortcuts
  • Open files, folders, or terminal commands from custom shortcuts
  • Add launch arguments and environment variables for advanced setups

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

Parall is intended to manage how other apps launch, so it can affect app profiles, storage locations, and shortcut behavior. That is normal for its purpose, but changes to data paths or advanced launch settings can cause confusion if you mix multiple instances of the same app without clear separation. The app itself is designed to run locally, and the publisher states that its only optional network request is for downloading compatibility settings. Use separate folders and names for each shortcut so your accounts and app data stay organized.

Recommendation: Keep Parall if you actively use multiple accounts, profiles, or app instances on the same Mac. If you do not use those workflows, you can remove it without affecting macOS itself, though any shortcuts you created with it may stop being useful until you recreate or replace them.
