Airfoil Satellite
Airfoil Satellite is Rogue Amoeba’s companion audio receiver and remote app for listening to and controlling Airfoil streams on Mac and other devices.
What is Airfoil Satellite?
Airfoil Satellite is a companion app for Airfoil that lets you receive audio streamed from a Mac and control playback from another device. It is designed for people who use Airfoil to send sound around a home, office, or studio setup to multiple speakers and endpoints. On Mac, it can function as a receiver for audio sent from Airfoil, making another computer available as a listening destination on the network. The broader Airfoil Satellite family also supports remote control features on supported platforms, including speaker selection and volume adjustment for connected outputs. This makes it useful for multi-room listening, routing music or app audio to another Mac, and managing Airfoil playback away from the main computer. Rogue Amoeba offers it as a free companion to the main Airfoil app.
Key features
- Receive audio streamed from Airfoil on a Mac over the local network
- Use another device as a playback destination for music, app audio, or other sound sources
- Control Airfoil playback remotely on supported platforms
- Adjust volume for connected outputs from the remote interface
- Work with multi-room and multi-speaker listening setups
- Complement Airfoil when sending audio to Macs, PCs, and mobile devices

Safety overview
Status: Safe
Airfoil Satellite is legitimate companion software for Airfoil and its network audio activity is normal for its purpose. It may communicate with other devices on your local network so it can receive streams or provide remote controls. Keep it if you use Airfoil audio streaming, and remove it if you no longer use that workflow. As with any networked audio tool, only allow connections on devices and networks you trust.
Recommendation: Keep Airfoil Satellite if you use Airfoil to send audio to this Mac or want remote control features in your listening setup. If you no longer stream audio with Airfoil, you can remove it without affecting macOS itself, though it will stop this Mac from working as an Airfoil receiving endpoint.
