The App Store edition operates inside the macOS App Sandbox. It cannot assume access to everything inside your user account, so supported tools ask you to choose the Home folder.
What the Home folder contains
Your Home folder normally contains Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Movies, Music, Pictures, and the user Library. Selecting it gives supported tools a stable authorized root for accessible content beneath it.
Some protected locations can still require Full Disk Access or another macOS permission.
Why a subfolder is not equivalent
Selecting Downloads authorizes Downloads, not Documents, Library, or the rest of Home. A tool looking for application support files can therefore return incomplete results.
When the prompt explicitly says Home Folder Access, select the folder named for your macOS user account.
What diCleaner does with access
The tool can locally enumerate supported files, calculate sizes, compare metadata or content, and perform an action you select and confirm.
The permission does not automatically start scans or upload the Home folder.
Can access be denied?
Yes. Cancel the picker or decline the request. The tool can continue within its available scope, display an access message, or return to its start screen.
Can access be removed?
Use Settings → Privacy → Home Folder Access → Remove Access in the App Store edition. The next applicable tool may ask again.
The direct edition does not use the same saved Home-folder selection flow, though macOS still protects restricted locations.
