Folder permission and Full Disk Access determine what an app can inspect. Administrator authorization is different: macOS can request it when a specific confirmed action needs elevated system rights.
When a prompt may appear
An authorization dialog can appear while changing a protected startup item, removing a system-owned supported file, or performing another operation that standard user rights cannot complete.
The request should follow an action you initiated and should describe the relevant operation.
Before approving
- Confirm the dialog appeared immediately after your choice in diCleaner.
- Read the application and action named by macOS.
- Cancel if the request is unexpected or unrelated.
- Verify that the selected items are correct.
- Use an administrator account you are authorized to use.
diCleaner does not need your password typed into a normal custom text field. macOS owns the system authorization interface.
What authorization grants
Approval authorizes the requested operation under macOS security rules. It is not the same as permanently giving diCleaner unrestricted administrator control.
The helper or operation can still fail if the item is protected by additional system controls, the disk is read-only, or the target changes.
If authorization fails
Check that the account is an administrator, the password is current, and organizational management does not prohibit the action. Restart diCleaner and retry only after confirming the target.
Do not disable System Integrity Protection or other major macOS security controls merely to remove an unfamiliar item.
