External disks are separate scan locations and can require explicit selection even when diCleaner already has Home-folder access.
Before authorizing a drive
Connect the drive directly or through a reliable hub, unlock encrypted storage, and confirm that it appears in Finder. Finish any repair, backup, encryption, or file-copy operation already using it.
Select the drive
- Open the diCleaner file tool you want to use.
- Choose the location selector.
- Select the external volume or the narrow folder you intend to scan.
- Confirm the macOS folder picker.
- Start the scan.
Selecting a subfolder limits the accessible scope and can make a scan faster.
Keep the volume available
Do not disconnect or eject it during scanning, comparison, or removal. If the drive disappears, cancel the operation and reconnect it before starting a new scan.
Why access may be requested again
macOS or diCleaner may no longer resolve the saved location after the drive is renamed, reformatted, replaced, mounted differently, or restored from another device. Select it again.
A different physical drive with the same visible name is not necessarily the same authorized location.
Read-only and network storage
A read-only volume can permit analysis while preventing deletion. Network storage can disconnect, change permissions, or report sizes differently.
Use the file server’s normal administration and backup tools for permission problems. Do not broaden local macOS permissions to work around a server-side restriction.
