An archive may be a redundant download, or it may be the only compact backup of important data.
Before removal:
- List or extract its contents safely.
- Confirm the extracted folder is complete.
- Verify encrypted archives can still be opened.
- Check whether the original source remains available.
- Preserve archives used for backup, deployment, transfer, or historical records.
Do not assume matching names mean an archive and folder contain the same version.
Large archives can require temporary free space for extraction. Use the owning archive utility and scan unknown downloads for safety before opening.
