The Junk Files tool groups supported files by purpose. A category describes why a file may be removable; it does not guarantee that removing every item is useful for every user.

Caches

Caches store data that macOS or an app can usually recreate. Removing a cache can recover space or resolve stale data, but the app may start more slowly or download the same data again.

Avoid clearing a cache during an application update, media export, synchronization, or other active task.

Logs and diagnostic data

Logs record activity and errors. Old logs may be unnecessary, but recent logs can help diagnose a crash, failed update, or support issue.

If you are troubleshooting, preserve relevant logs until the issue is resolved.

Temporary files

Temporary data supports work in progress. Well-behaved applications normally remove it, but files can remain after a crash or interrupted operation.

Close the application that created temporary data before cleaning it. Unsaved recovery information may also be stored temporarily.

Application support data

Not all files inside Library folders are caches. Application Support can contain settings, extensions, databases, downloaded assets, and user-created content. diCleaner limits supported cleanup categories, but you should still inspect unfamiliar entries.

Developer and build data

Developer tools can generate indexes, build products, device support files, archives, and simulators. Much of this data can be recreated, but doing so may take significant time and bandwidth.

Preserve archives, signing-related data, and active project resources unless you understand their role.

Downloaded update data

Installers and update caches can remain after an update. Do not remove them while macOS or an application is installing, preparing, or rolling back an update.

Mail and media caches

Cached attachments and media improve offline access. Removing them can require the owning application to download data again. Verify that the original message or cloud item is still available before removing its local cache.

Review before cleaning

For each category:

  1. Expand the result.
  2. Check the owning application and path.
  3. Consider whether recreation requires a large download or long rebuild.
  4. Deselect recent troubleshooting data or active work.
  5. Close the owning app.
  6. Confirm only the items you understand.

If you cannot determine whether an item is a cache or original content, leave it selected off.
