Universal Mac applications can contain processor code for both Apple silicon and Intel Macs. App Slimmer identifies eligible application code that the current Mac does not need.
Slimming changes the installed application. It does not compress documents, remove user data, or make every app eligible.
Before slimming
- Finish updates and installations.
- Quit the applications you plan to slim, including their helpers and updaters.
- Confirm that important work is backed up.
- Keep enough free space for a temporary recovery copy.
An application update or reinstall can restore a universal version and make the app eligible for slimming again.
Review eligible apps
Open Cleanup → App Slimmer and wait for the scan to finish. Select an app to review:
- Potential storage savings.
- Percentage of processor code that can be removed.
- Processor architecture that will be kept.
- Executables and frameworks that are eligible.
- The app’s safety classification.
Apps with a simple structure can usually be checked automatically. Apps containing helpers, plug-ins, or update tools receive more conservative handling. Apps with system-level components are excluded.
An app that is absent from the results may already contain only the required architecture, may have an unsupported structure, or may be excluded for safety.
Slim selected apps
Select only apps you recognize, then choose Slim Apps and confirm. Do not quit diCleaner or restart the Mac while processing is active.
diCleaner removes only eligible processor-code slices. It verifies the modified copy and briefly opens the app. If the app cannot open normally, diCleaner restores the original automatically and does not keep the failed slimmed version.
macOS may request App Management or administrator authorization before an installed application can be changed. Approve only the application and action you selected.
Test the result
Automatic launch verification cannot test every feature, plug-in, updater, command-line component, or workflow. After slimming:
- Open the app normally.
- Open an important document or project.
- Test essential plug-ins, extensions, export actions, and update checks.
- Restore the original promptly if anything behaves unexpectedly.
Restore an original app
App Slimmer keeps a recovery copy for 7 days. Open Recovery in App Slimmer and choose Restore Original.
A restored app is added to the Ignore List so it is not immediately offered again. If you are satisfied with the slimmed app, you can delete its recovery copy early to reclaim the retained space.
Deleting one recovery or choosing Delete All Recoveries is permanent. After a recovery expires or is deleted, diCleaner can no longer restore that original copy.
Know the limits
Slimming is not the same as uninstalling an app. The app’s documents and support data remain in place.
Code signatures, application updates, security software, managed-device policy, read-only storage, or an active process can prevent a safe change. When diCleaner reports that an app was not slimmed, leave it unchanged or use the developer’s supported installer rather than modifying the bundle manually.
