Installer files are often no longer required after an application is installed, but some are valuable and difficult to replace.
Scan for installers
Open Applications → Installers, select the location to search, and review file name, extension, source folder, size, and date.
Keep an installer when
- The app is no longer downloadable.
- You need offline or repeated deployment.
- A license is tied to that version.
- It contains drivers or recovery tools.
- You must preserve a known compatible build.
Remove an installer
Verify that the application itself is installed and working. Open the disk image or package only when necessary to identify it, then eject mounted images before removal.
Deleting a .dmg or .pkg normally does not uninstall the application it installed.
Duplicate installers
Preserve the verified official copy and remove redundant downloads after comparing versions and signatures. Similar names do not guarantee identical contents.
