The App Updates tool helps you review supported installed applications and identify versions that may have a newer release available.

Before checking

Connect to the internet and close any installer already running. Update availability can differ by edition, release channel, region, or distribution source.

Check for updates

  1. Open Applications.
  2. Choose App Updates.
  3. If prompted, choose whether to check more updates online.
  4. Wait while diCleaner checks available version information.
  5. Review the installed and available versions.
  6. Open the update source for an app you want to update.
  7. Follow the developer’s or App Store’s installation process.

diCleaner does not treat every version difference as permission to replace an app automatically. Review release notes, compatibility, licensing, and system requirements at the update source.

For App Store applications, diCleaner opens the App Store page. Other applications may use Sparkle, an Electron updater, Homebrew Cask, the app’s own updater, or an official update page. App Updates does not silently install every available update.

You can change the additional online check under Settings → Privacy → Online Services → App Update Check:

  • Ask Next Time: ask again when App Updates opens;
  • Enabled: check known channels and Doinno’s additional update information;
  • Disabled: check known channels only.

Why an app may not appear

An application may be omitted if its version metadata is missing, its update source is unsupported, it is installed in an inaccessible location, or the developer distributes updates through a channel diCleaner cannot identify.

Known update channels include the Mac App Store, compatible Sparkle feeds, supported Electron updater configurations, and Homebrew Cask. Additional online checking can cover apps without a confidently identified channel.

An empty list does not guarantee that every application is current. Use the app’s own update command or App Store when accuracy is critical.

Understand version differences

Developers can publish different App Store, direct, beta, enterprise, and regional releases. A higher version from another channel may not be the correct update for your installed copy.

Use the developer’s official updater, website, or App Store to confirm important updates. Do not download software from an unknown mirror only because a result shows a newer version.

If a result remains after updating, quit and reopen the application, then run App Updates again. Also check for an older duplicate copy elsewhere on the Mac.

After updating

Reopen the application and verify that important documents, plug-ins, and workflows still work. Then run a fresh update check if you want diCleaner to read the new installed version.
