What is TuckBar?

TuckBar is a native Mac utility for hiding the macOS menu bar on the specific displays you choose instead of applying auto-hide everywhere. It is designed for people who use multiple monitors, especially users who want to reduce persistent static interface elements on OLED screens or keep one display visually cleaner while working. The app can make the hidden area blend into the desktop wallpaper, show a solid black cover, or dim the bar, and it brings the real menu bar back when you move the pointer to the top edge. TuckBar can also temporarily untuck the bar for a set time, optionally hide the Dock on tagged displays, and restore normal behavior when a display is disconnected or when the app quits. It runs from the menu bar and fits best into display-management and desktop-customization workflows on macOS.

Key features

  • Hide the menu bar on selected displays instead of all displays at once
  • Blend the hidden menu bar area into the current wallpaper for a cleaner look
  • Use a solid black cover or dim the menu bar instead of fully blending it
  • Reveal the real menu bar instantly when you move the pointer to the top edge
  • Temporarily untuck the menu bar for 5 to 60 minutes when needed
  • Optionally hide the Dock while a tagged display is connected
  • Automatically apply and restore settings as displays connect or disconnect

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

TuckBar is a legitimate display utility for macOS. Screen Recording access is a normal request for its wallpaper-blending mode because it needs to read the screen area used to match the background, and optional system control access may be used for menu bar or Dock behavior. If you do not want to grant those permissions, you can limit its functionality or remove the app without affecting your personal files.

Recommendation: Keep TuckBar if you actively use per-display menu bar hiding or want a cleaner multi-monitor setup. If you no longer use those features, you can remove it and macOS will return to its normal built-in menu bar behavior.
