Tiled
Tiled is a 2D tile map and level editor for building game maps, tilesets, and object layers for many game development workflows.
What is Tiled?
Tiled is a 2D level editor for creating tile-based game maps, tilesets, and object layouts. It is commonly used by game developers, hobbyists, educators, and modders who need to build maps for RPGs, platformers, strategy games, and other 2D projects. The app supports several map orientations, including orthogonal, isometric, and hexagonal layouts, which makes it useful across different art styles and level designs. Users can paint tile layers, place freeform objects and images, define custom properties, and organize content across multiple layers. Tiled also supports exporting map data for use in game engines and custom pipelines, and it can be extended with scripting and plugins for specialized workflows. Published by Thorbjørn Lindeijer, it is available for macOS and other major desktop platforms.
Key features
- Create tile maps with orthogonal, isometric, and hexagonal layouts
- Paint, copy, and edit tile layers with selection and drawing tools
- Place objects, images, and annotations on separate layers
- Assign custom properties to maps, layers, tiles, and objects

Safety overview
Status: Safe
Tiled is legitimate desktop software for creating game maps and related assets. It mainly works with project files, images, tilesets, and exported map data you choose to open or save. That file access is normal for a level editor. Use the same caution you would with any creative tool: keep backups of active projects before major edits, and only open maps, scripts, or plugins from sources you trust if you use advanced extensions.
Recommendation: Keep Tiled if you create or edit 2D game maps, tilesets, or level data. If you no longer use it, you can remove the app, but save any project folders and exported assets you want to keep first because uninstalling the app does not replace those files later.
