TextSniper
TextSniper is a macOS OCR utility that lets you capture text from anywhere on your screen and copy it as editable text.
What is TextSniper?
TextSniper is a native macOS utility for extracting editable text from content that normally cannot be copied, such as images, videos, presentation slides, PDFs, and user interface elements on screen. It is designed for people who regularly move text between apps and want a faster alternative to retyping or full document OCR workflows. The app works by letting you select an area of the screen and converting recognized text directly to the clipboard for pasting into notes, emails, documents, or chats. TextSniper also includes practical tools around quick text capture, including support for recognizing QR codes and reading detected text aloud. For Mac users, it fits into everyday productivity workflows where text needs to be pulled from visual content quickly and with minimal interruption.

Safety overview
Status: Mostly safe
TextSniper is a legitimate Mac utility for on-screen OCR. Screen Recording access is consistent with its purpose because it needs to read text from selected parts of your display. As with any app that can view screen content, avoid capturing sensitive information unless you trust the app and your current workflow. Removing it will stop its text-capture features, but it does not indicate the kind of broad system modification normally associated with higher-risk software.
Recommendation: Keep TextSniper if you use it to copy text from images, videos, PDFs, or other non-selectable screen content. If you no longer use that workflow, you can remove the app and its related support files without affecting macOS beyond losing TextSniper features and settings.
