Tailscale is legitimate VPN and secure access software, and its networking permissions and background activity are consistent with that purpose. On macOS it may install a VPN configuration and, depending on the variant, may use a system or network extension so it can route traffic securely. Because this app can carry private network traffic and provide access to internal resources, you should sign in only to a tailnet you recognize and review which account or organization is managing access. The bundle ID io.tailscale.ipn.macos is used for the Mac App Store variant.
Recommendation: Keep Tailscale if you use it to reach your own devices, work systems, or other private services. If you no longer use that network, you can sign out and remove the app, but doing so will stop VPN-based access, Taildrop, and any remote connections that depend on your tailnet.
