Signal Beta is the macOS beta version of Signal Desktop, a social communication app for private messaging from your computer. Signal Beta is legitimate prerelease software from Signal for testing new desktop features before general release. It handles your messages and attachments, so local chat data may be stored on the Mac, and uninstalling the app can remove its local message history. Microphone or camera access is normal if you use calling features. Because beta software can include bugs or unfinished changes, avoid relying on it as your only copy of important conversation access.
Recommendation: Keep Signal Beta if you intentionally use Signal’s test build and want early access to desktop updates. If you prefer the most stable experience, switch to the regular Signal Desktop release and remove the beta app after confirming you no longer need its local data.
