This is a legitimate virtual world client. It normally uses network access, stores account-related settings and cached world data locally, and may use voice features if you enable them. Because it connects to a large online social platform with user-generated content and in-world commerce, use standard account-security habits, be careful with purchases, and supervise younger users appropriately.
Recommendation: Keep Second Life if you actively use the service or want access to its communities, events, and virtual spaces. If you no longer use it, you can remove the app and its support files to free disk space, but doing so may delete saved settings, cached content, and local sign-in convenience.
