Samsung DeX
Samsung DeX is a desktop-mode companion for Galaxy devices that lets you use phone or tablet apps on a larger screen from a Mac.
What is Samsung DeX?
Samsung DeX is a desktop-mode app for using a compatible Galaxy phone or tablet with a Mac in a larger, PC-style workspace. It helps users open mobile apps in resizable windows, work with a keyboard and mouse, and move between phone-style and desktop-style workflows more comfortably. Common uses include multitasking with mobile apps, handling messages and notifications from a computer setup, and moving files between the Galaxy device and the desktop environment. Samsung designed DeX for people who want a bigger-screen experience for mobile productivity without replacing their phone or tablet apps. On macOS, users may still encounter Samsung DeX if it was installed previously, although Samsung no longer provides downloads, updates, or customer support for the Mac version.

Safety overview
Status: Mostly safe
Samsung DeX is legitimate Samsung software. It may need access related to connected devices, file transfer, and input or display features so it can show and control your Galaxy device from the Mac. Those requests are normal for this kind of companion app. The main practical concern is compatibility and support: the Mac version is discontinued, so it may stop working reliably with newer Galaxy software or future macOS changes.
Recommendation: Keep Samsung DeX if you still use it with an older compatible Galaxy workflow and it works well on your Mac. If you no longer connect a Galaxy device through DeX, removing it is reasonable and may free up space while avoiding an outdated app you do not need.
