What is Sabaki?

Sabaki is a native desktop app for playing through, editing, and analyzing Go games in SGF format on macOS. It is designed for Go, Baduk, and Weiqi players who want a focused board editor for game review, study, and engine-assisted analysis. Users can record moves, explore variations, manage game information, and inspect positions in a dedicated board interface rather than a web browser. Sabaki also supports connecting compatible Go engines, which makes it useful for analysis, self-review, and studying candidate moves. Advanced users often use it to maintain SGF collections, review teaching games, and examine joseki or whole-board decisions. The project is open source and is associated with SabakiHQ.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

Sabaki is a legitimate Go study and SGF editing app. It normally needs access only to the game files you choose to open or save, and engine features may launch external Go engines that you configure separately. If you use engine integration, be mindful that those engines are separate software with their own behavior and resource use. Removing Sabaki simply stops you from using its board editor and analysis features.

Recommendation: Keep Sabaki if you play or study Go and want a dedicated SGF editor or analysis tool on your Mac. If you no longer use it, you can remove it without affecting macOS, but you may want to keep any SGF files or engine configurations you still need.
