What is Rayburst?

Rayburst is a desktop download manager for macOS and other desktop platforms that helps users handle direct downloads, torrents, magnet links, and streaming media tasks in one place. It is published by Aninsomniacy and is designed for people who want more control over download speed, task organization, and protocol support than a browser download panel usually provides. The app supports common file transfers such as HTTP and HTTPS as well as BitTorrent, Magnet, ED2K, SFTP, and .torrent tasks. It also includes browser extension integration, download history, folder organization tools, bandwidth limits, scheduling options, and native notifications. On macOS, users may encounter it when managing large downloads, collecting media, or keeping long-running transfers active outside the browser.

Key features

  • Download files over HTTP, HTTPS, SFTP, BitTorrent, Magnet, ED2K, and .torrent links
  • Manage concurrent downloads with task limits and upload or download speed controls
  • Capture downloads from a browser with extension integration and confirmation options
  • Organize completed and active downloads with history, recent folders, and file categorization
  • Schedule bandwidth limits by time and day for better network control
  • Download HLS and DASH media with track selection, subtitles, and resumable transfers

Safety overview

Status: Use with caution

Rayburst is a legitimate download manager, but macOS builds are distributed outside the App Store and the project states that its macOS app is not notarized. That can trigger Gatekeeper warnings and means you should download it only from the official project page or its official release channel. Because it can handle files, browser handoff, and network transfers, use normal care with the links and downloads you open through it.

Recommendation: Keep Rayburst if you actively use it for managing downloads, torrents, or media transfers. If you do not use it, removing it is usually reasonable and will mainly affect saved settings, download history, and any browser-to-app download workflow you have set up.
