PyCharm
PyCharm is a desktop integrated development environment for writing, running, debugging, and managing Python projects on macOS.
What is PyCharm?
PyCharm is a native desktop IDE for Python development on macOS. It helps developers write code, navigate large projects, run applications, debug problems, and manage Python environments from one workspace. PyCharm is commonly used for web development, scripting, data work, testing, and working with frameworks such as Django and FastAPI, as well as Jupyter notebooks. The app also includes tools for version control, terminal access, code inspections, refactoring, and project navigation that support day-to-day programming workflows. PyCharm is developed by JetBrains s.r.o. and is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Key features
- Write and edit Python code with intelligent completion and error highlighting
- Run, test, and debug Python applications from within the IDE
- Work with Jupyter notebooks alongside regular Python project files
- Manage virtual environments and project interpreters for development
- Navigate, search, and refactor code across larger projects
- Use built-in Git and version control tools during development

Safety overview
Status: Safe
PyCharm is legitimate developer software used to create and maintain Python projects. It can access the files, folders, repositories, terminals, interpreters, and virtual environments you open in it, which is normal for an IDE. Depending on your workflow, it may download plugins, index project files, connect to package sources or version control services, and store project settings and caches locally. Keep it if you use Python development tools, and be mindful when opening untrusted codebases or running scripts from unknown sources.
Recommendation: Keep PyCharm if you use Python on this Mac or work with coding, notebooks, or web frameworks. If you no longer use it, you can remove the app and its support files to free disk space, but doing so may delete local settings, caches, and project-specific IDE configuration.
