What is Open Design?
Open Design is a native desktop design workspace for people who want to turn prompts, references, and existing project files into visual deliverables. It helps designers, developers, marketers, and solo builders create prototypes, landing pages, dashboards, slide decks, images, videos, and reusable design systems in one workflow. The app is local-first, so it runs on your machine and works with supported coding agents you already use, including tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and other compatible adapters. Open Design can read project context, generate runnable files, preview results, and support iterative editing as work evolves. Open Design is legitimate desktop software for AI-assisted design work. It is designed to run locally and can read files and project context needed for generation, preview, and export tasks, so access to folders you choose is normal for its purpose. Because the app can work with external AI providers and coding-agent tools, be mindful about which project files, credentials, and sensitive references you include in a session. Keep it only if you use its design workflow, and review its privacy settings and connected tools if you handle confidential work.
Recommendation: Keep Open Design if you actively create prototypes, slides, brand systems, or other generated design assets with AI-assisted workflows. If you no longer use it, removing the app is reasonable; you may also want to remove its support files later if you want to free additional space after uninstalling.
