Ntfstool
NTFSTool is a macOS utility that lets you read from and write to Windows NTFS drives without reformatting them first.
What is Ntfstool?
NTFSTool is a Mac utility for working with Windows NTFS-formatted drives on macOS. It helps users open, copy, edit, and delete files on external disks and USB storage that macOS would otherwise mount as read-only. The app is aimed at people who regularly move files between Mac and Windows computers, including anyone using backup drives, portable SSDs, or shared work storage. Current versions are designed for modern macOS systems and support both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. The app focuses on drive mounting and access rather than general disk partitioning, making it most useful when you need practical NTFS read and write support in everyday workflows.
Key features
- Read files from Windows NTFS drives on Mac
- Write, edit, copy, and delete files on NTFS-formatted disks
- Mount and manage external NTFS volumes from a Mac interface

Safety overview
Status: Mostly safe
NTFSTool is designed to modify access to NTFS disks on your Mac, so it may install helper components and ask for administrator approval as part of setup or removal. That kind of access is normal for disk utilities, but you should use it carefully on drives that contain important files because write access to external storage always carries some risk if a drive is disconnected unexpectedly or already has file-system problems. If you no longer use it, remove it through the app’s own uninstall steps so helper components are cleaned up properly.
Recommendation: Keep NTFSTool if you regularly use Windows-formatted drives on your Mac and need full write support. If you no longer connect NTFS storage, removing it is reasonable and may also remove background helper components that are only useful for disk access.
