What is Nigate?

Nigate is a macOS disk utility that helps users work with NTFS-formatted USB drives and external disks on Mac. It provides a graphical interface for mounting NTFS volumes in read-write mode, monitoring connected devices, and managing common disk actions without relying entirely on Terminal commands. The app is useful for people who regularly move files between Windows PCs and Macs and need broader access to NTFS storage than macOS normally provides by default. Nigate also includes options such as automatic device detection, status and log display, sleep prevention during long operations, and a reset tool for non-destructive disk repair workflows. It supports both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs and is distributed as an open-source project by Hoochanlon.

Key features

  • Mount NTFS drives in read-write mode from a graphical interface
  • Detect newly connected NTFS devices automatically
  • Enable automatic read-write mounting for supported drives
  • View device status and operation logs in one place
  • Prevent system sleep during long disk operations
  • Use a reset action for non-destructive disk repair workflows
  • Work on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs

Safety overview

Status: Use with caution

Nigate is a legitimate NTFS utility, but it works at the disk-mounting level and may request administrator access to install dependencies and enable read-write support. Because it changes how external NTFS volumes are mounted, mistakes or interruptions during writes can risk file corruption or data loss on the affected drive. Back up important files before using it, eject disks properly, and avoid forcing writes to storage that is already reporting errors or behaving unreliably.

Recommendation: Keep Nigate if you actively use NTFS-formatted drives with your Mac and need write access. If you no longer use it, you can remove it, but do that only when you do not rely on its NTFS mounting features for external disks.
