What is Moneydance?

Moneydance is a desktop personal finance application for macOS designed to help individuals and households manage everyday money tasks in one place. It lets you track bank accounts, credit cards, loans, cash accounts, and investment balances from a register-style interface that is familiar to long-time finance software users. Common uses include budgeting, reconciling transactions, monitoring spending, scheduling bills and reminders, and reviewing reports or graphs over time. The app also supports online banking features such as transaction downloads, and it offers syncing options for people who want to work with their financial data across devices. Moneydance is published by The Infinite Kind Limited and is also available on other desktop platforms, making it useful for users who prefer locally installed finance software instead of a browser-based service.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

Moneydance is a legitimate finance application, but it handles sensitive financial data, so treat it with the same care as banking software. Access to your financial records, transaction downloads, and any sync features is consistent with its purpose. Before connecting accounts or enabling sync, review where your data is stored, whether cloud syncing is turned on, and whether you use a strong Mac account password and app lock settings if available. If this copy is no longer used, leaving old finance data files on the Mac can expose personal information even after the app is closed.

Recommendation: Keep Moneydance if you actively use it to manage accounts, budgets, or investments. If you no longer use it, export or back up any financial records you want to keep before removing the app and its local data, since deleting its support files can also remove account history, reports, and synced settings.
