Max

What is Max?

Max is a macOS music and audio utility that helps users rip audio CDs and convert audio files between many common formats. It is designed for people who want more control over audio extraction quality, output formats, file naming, and metadata handling than a basic converter usually provides. Max can extract tracks from compact discs, convert existing files, and write output in a wide range of compressed and uncompressed formats. It also supports metadata lookup for CDs and can carry tags into converted files where supported. Advanced options such as error-correction choices, encoder settings, cue sheet support, and output organization make it useful for archival work, format migration, and building local music libraries. Max is published by Feisty Dog, LLC for Mac users.

Key features

• Rip audio tracks from compact discs
• Convert audio files between many common audio formats
• Choose output formats and encoding settings for different needs
• Transfer supported metadata to converted files
• Look up compact disc information automatically
• Split a single audio file into tracks using a cue sheet

Safety overview

Status: Safe

Max is a legitimate audio utility for ripping CDs and converting music files on Mac. Access to your audio files and removable media is normal for its purpose, and any metadata lookups are part of organizing music libraries. Keep backups of important music files before large batch conversions or retagging jobs so you can undo unwanted changes.

Recommendation: Keep Max if you rip CDs, convert audio formats, or manage a local music collection on your Mac. If you no longer use it, you can remove it like other third-party apps, but you may want to keep any music files or export settings you still need first.
