What is Mapper?

Mapper is a lightweight navigation utility and Safari extension that helps people open Google Maps links in Apple Maps without copying and pasting addresses. Developed by Alex Kitcoff, it is designed for users who prefer Apple Maps when browsing Google Search results, business listings, and directions links in Safari. On Mac, iPhone, and iPad, the app can redirect supported Google Maps links, map thumbnails, and direction buttons into Apple Maps with a single action. It also supports multiple Google country domains, which is useful for users who search across different regional Google sites. The app is best suited to people who frequently look up places in Safari and want a faster handoff from web results to Apple Maps.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

Mapper is a legitimate Safari extension for opening map links in Apple Maps. To do its job, it may request permission to read webpage content in Safari where map links appear, and that kind of access is normal for a link-redirect extension. The developer states that the app does not collect data, but you should still grant website access thoughtfully and limit it when Safari offers that choice. If you remove the app, its Safari extension behavior stops and links will open the way they normally do without Mapper.

Recommendation: Keep Mapper if you regularly use Safari and want Google Maps links to open in Apple Maps more quickly. If you do not use that workflow, you can remove it without affecting macOS beyond losing the extension’s redirect feature.
