What is Magic Switch?

Magic Switch is a native macOS utility that helps users share Apple Magic peripherals between two Macs without manually re-pairing them each time. It lives in the menu bar and lets you hand off a Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and similar Bluetooth devices from one Mac to another. The app is designed for people who work across a desktop Mac and a MacBook and want faster switching than cables, KVM hardware, or repeated Bluetooth setup. Its interface includes guided pairing, status feedback, battery information, and options to switch all supported peripherals together or move one device at a time. Magic Switch also supports shortcuts and URL-based triggers for automation-friendly workflows. It is published by Joshua Rogers as an open-source Mac app.

Key features

  • Switch supported Magic peripherals between two Macs from the menu bar

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

Magic Switch is a legitimate utility for controlling Bluetooth peripheral handoff between Macs. It normally asks for Bluetooth and Local Network access so the two Macs can discover each other and coordinate switching, and notifications are used to report results when no window is open. Those permissions are expected for this kind of tool, but you should only grant them if you intentionally use the app on Macs you control and trust on your local network.

Recommendation: Keep Magic Switch if you regularly use one set of Apple Magic peripherals with two Macs. If you stop using that workflow, you can remove the app and its related support files; doing so will only stop its switching, shortcut, and status features.
