What is Jedit?

Jedit is a macOS text editor built for writing, editing, and formatting many common document types in a single desktop app. It supports plain text, RTF, RTFD, Markdown, Text Clippings, and Microsoft Word documents, which makes it useful for general writing, note taking, document cleanup, and text-focused workflows. The app is especially helpful for users who work with Japanese text, thanks to support for vertical writing, multiple Japanese encodings, and typography features tuned for CJK documents. It also includes document statistics, search and replace tools, and iCloud Drive integration for working across Macs. Jedit is published by Artman21 Inc. and distributed for Mac through the App Store.

Safety overview

Status: Safe

Jedit is a normal document-editing app for macOS, so access to files you open or save is expected for its purpose. If you use iCloud Drive, your documents may sync through your Apple account just like other Mac apps that support iCloud. The App Store listing says the developer does not collect data, but your document privacy still depends on where you store files and what content you choose to open. Keep it if you use it for writing or text editing, and use your usual care with sensitive documents.

Recommendation: Keep Jedit if you use it to edit text or document files on your Mac. If you no longer use it, you can remove the app like any other Mac App Store app, but any documents you created or saved with it will remain wherever you stored them unless you delete those separately.
