What is ISO Image Creator?

ISO Image Creator is a macOS utility for creating bootable ISO files from supported macOS installer applications. It is designed for people who need a Mac installer in ISO format for virtualization software such as Parallels Desktop, VMware, or VirtualBox, or for other deployment and testing workflows. The app streamlines a task that otherwise requires several manual Terminal and Disk Utility steps by guiding you through selecting a compatible installer and generating the ISO image on your Mac. It supports a wide range of macOS installer versions and is focused on working with full installer apps rather than package-based installers. Macmeup later integrated this functionality into its newer Bootabler app, so some users may encounter ISO Image Creator as an older standalone tool while keeping it for compatibility with older macOS setups.

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

This app performs a legitimate utility task, but it works with macOS installer files and may request administrator access and permission to save files to locations such as the Desktop while it creates ISO images. That access is normal for writing bootable media files and disk images. Use it only with trusted macOS installers you obtained directly from Apple, and expect the app to consume storage space while building large ISO files.

Recommendation: Keep ISO Image Creator if you still create macOS installer ISOs, especially for virtual machines or older workflows. If you no longer use it, removing it is usually fine. If you want the newer version of this functionality, consider moving to Bootabler, which integrates the same general purpose in a newer app.
