What is Informity AI?

Informity AI is a native Mac productivity app that helps people explore, search, and work with documents stored on their own computer. It indexes selected folders, then lets you ask questions across your files and get answers with citations back to the original sources. The app also includes document translation features and supports offline use after setup, which makes it useful for private research, knowledge work, and reference-heavy writing. Informity AI is built for Apple Silicon Macs and is designed for users who want local AI workflows instead of uploading documents to a cloud service. It is published by Dennis Gerasimenko and offered as an open-source desktop app.

Key features

  • Ask questions across indexed local documents and get source-cited answers
  • Select folders on your Mac and build a searchable document index
  • Translate documents locally on your Mac
  • Work offline after setup without requiring cloud uploads
  • Review cited passages to trace answers back to original files
  • Choose and manage local AI models for document workflows

Safety overview

Status: Mostly safe

Informity AI is designed to process documents on your Mac, so access to folders you choose is a normal part of how it works. Because it can read and index local files, only add folders you are comfortable making searchable inside the app. Local processing reduces cloud exposure, but indexed content and downloaded models can use significant disk space and system memory. If you work with sensitive documents, review which folders are included and remove any you do not want indexed.

Recommendation: Keep Informity AI if you use local AI search, document Q&A, or translation on your Mac. If you no longer use it, you can remove the app and then clean up its support and cache data to recover storage, especially if it has downloaded large models or indexed many files.
