HDHomeRun
HDHomeRun is a Mac app for watching live TV and recorded television from compatible HDHomeRun tuners on your local network.
What is HDHomeRun?
HDHomeRun is a native TV streaming app for Mac that works with compatible HDHomeRun tuner hardware on your home network. It helps users watch live over-the-air or cable TV, browse channel listings, and play recordings created through the HDHomeRun ecosystem. The app is aimed at cord-cutters and home TV viewers who want to watch television on a Mac without connecting a tuner directly to the computer. Common uses include watching local broadcast channels, continuing TV playback across Apple devices, and accessing DVR content from a shared household setup. Published by Silicondust, the app is part of the broader HDHomeRun platform that also supports iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and other devices.

Safety overview
Status: Safe
HDHomeRun is legitimate TV viewing software for use with HDHomeRun tuner hardware. Network access and local network discovery are normal for its purpose because the app needs to find compatible tuners and stream television across your home network. It may also access guide and playback data needed for viewing and DVR features. Keep it if you use HDHomeRun hardware, and remove it if you no longer watch TV through that setup.
Recommendation: Keep HDHomeRun if you use an HDHomeRun tuner or DVR on your network. If you no longer use that TV setup, you can remove the app without affecting macOS, though you may lose convenient access to live TV and recordings on this Mac.
